Port of Hong Kong volumes rise in January
In common with other ports in the region, the Port of Hong Kong witnessed growth in box volumes in the first month of the year.
In January, the Kwai Tsing terminals handled 1.4m teu, up 3.6% compared to 1.29m teu in the first month of 2016. Meanwhile, the port’s mid-stream operators handled 400,000 teu, a 3.3% increase for a total of 1.802m teu for the port as a whole.
Other leading ports in the region also started the year well. Singapore handled 5.2% more boxes in January, up to 2.62m teu. At the same time Shanghai figures soared to 3.3m teu, a rise of 12% on January 2016.
