In percentage terms throughput growth at the Port of Hong Kong has outstripped its neighbours by a country mile. But look a little closer at the spectacular 26% increase and the recovery looks more modest.
Volumes at the Kwai Tsing terminals leapt 17% to 1.14m teu, up from 973,000 teu during the same month in 2016.
The growth from mid-stream operations was even more impressive at 79.6%, reaching 300,000. Thus total volumes in February topped 1.436m teu.
But the 2016 figures hit a low point – down some 21% on throughput in 2015. Throughput at the port this February failed to match 2015 volumes of 1.444m teu.
