ICS clarification

A recent story published on hongkongmaritimehub.com in relation to the attendance of senior International Chamber of Shipping personnel at UN negotiations on UNCLOS carried the headline “ICS attempts to distance itself from UNCLOS”. We accept that this headline was clumsily worded and could be misleading when considered in the light of the story that followed. We are happy to publish the following clarification:

“ICS is not in any way attempting to distant itself from these important UN negotiations. On the contrary we are fully engaged and completely support the objectives of providing a comprehensive regulatory framework for the high seas, so long as the final result does not in any way diminish the authority and ability of the IMO to regulate international shipping, which it currently does very effectively.”
