BSM to manage two ultra large containerships

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement has announced an agreement with Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines to manage two of the latter’s ultra large containerships.

The 20,146 teu MOL Tribute came under full BSM management from the shipmanager’s Hong Kong Ship Management Centre on July 10. Sister ship MOL Tradition will enter Hong Kong Management at the end of August.

MOL began the detailed process of selecting and appointing a ship manager for the ULCs nearly two years ago, BSM said. BSM won the selection race after the owner visited the Hong Kong Ship Management Centre, the Mumbai Training Centre and on board large containerships currently being managed by BSM.

BSM attributed its success to a three-decade long relationship with MOL that extends across bulk carriers, containerships and tankers both owned and chartered by MOL.

BSM manages a fleet of 600 vessels, 62 of which are managed out of the Hong Kong Ship Management Centre.
