Anglo Eastern launches digital platform at IMO

Anglo Eastern and MarinePALS formerly launched the Engine Cadet Training Record Book for tablets in London during the International Maritime Organization’s Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW 5) sub-committee meeting on 18 July 2018.

Previously available as a deck cadet record book, Anglo Eastern and MarinePALS have extended the PALS (Proficiency and Learning System) platform to include engine cadet learning materials in time for the launch.

PALS is a web-based portal with an offline version available on tablets. It replicates deck and engine cadet record books and provides learning materials corresponding to each task. The system is designed to replace the hardcopy of the GlobalMET deck and engine cadet record books, and now covers the learning content with digital versions of:

GlobalMET Deck Cadet Record Book

GlobalMET Training and Assessment Record Book for Engine Cadets

Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping (STCW A-II/1, STCW A-III/1) provides the list of competencies for which cadets need to be trained. GlobalMET deck and engine cadet record books contain lists of tasks addressing each of the competencies mentioned in STCW and are widely used in the industry.

PALS is a single consolidated platform for the sharing of information and progress between cadets, administrators, company training officers, mentors and external assessors/flag states.

The tablet version synchronizes the progress of the cadet whenever Wi-Fi or Internet is available. Company training officers can receive and provide feedback to the cadet within the same platform, while flag states or others can also access the progress of the cadet and audit company training.

Key features of the platform include:

Digital record book: The system is designed to replace the hardcopy of the GlobalMET deck and engine cadet record books.

Consolidated material: Consolidation of learning content from various sources in one place for ready reference.

Multimedia content: Effective use of multimedia content like videos, animations, diagrams and sketches to make learning interesting.

Self-paced learning: Cadets can learn anytime and anywhere at their own pace.

Tutorials and assessments: Extensive library of tutorials and assessments for every task.

Sync with server: Easy one-step synchronization of records with shore server when in Wi-Fi range.

SCORM compliance: The platform has the ability to support any content that is SCORM-compliant.
